No less than eight persons have been reportedly killed by a fresh outbreak of meningitis in Bugaje ward in Jibia Local government area of Katsina State.
The Information Officer in the area, Saadu Suleiman, confirmed the deaths on Saturday while Speaking with newsmen.
Suleiman said the deaths of five males and three females were recorded between last Monday and Friday.
He said several others were hospitalized at the health centre in Bugaje.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Kabir Mustapha, is yet to comment on the development.
Early this month, an outbreak was recorded in Jaja village, Gangara ward in Jibia Local Government Area of the state where seven person reportedly died and several others hospitalised.
51 cases were also recorded in 10 local government areas of Jigawa State,while 15 persons were feared killed by meningitis.
The Yobe Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bello Kawuwa, also disclosed thatthe state recorded 10 new cases of Cebro Spinal Meningitis with three deaths in 2018.
