Nigerian On The Verge To Break World Record For “The Longest Reading Marathon”
A Nigerian man, Treasure Olawunmi Bayode, has set a new Guinness Record in the “Longest Marathon Reading Aloud” Category.
Bayode, father of three kids, clocked 120 hours at 15.30 on Saturday, March 3, at the YouRead Library Yaba in Lagos, beating the previous record set by Nepali Deepak Sharma Bajagain.
Bayo, who started the proceedings at 1:30pm on Monday reading Carnivorous City by Toni Kan, revealed that he took the initiative for the youths; to remind them that education is the bedrock of development.
“I have always loved to read good materials right from when I was in secondary school.,” he had wrote on Twitter.
“I am doing this for the culture! For the reading culture. I am doing this for the youths; to remind them that education is the bedrock of development.
“I am doing this for Nigeria – for the world know we’re a great nation – and yes, we do have libraries!”
Before now, the longest marathon reading aloud was 113 hours 15 minutes achieved by Deepak Sharma Bajagain (Nepal) at the Tudikhel Ground, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Bajagain’s book reading began on September 19 and ended on September 24, 2008.
He recited 17 different books from 13 authors during his record attempt.
