Arsenal have been handed a boost after the agent of dream signing Ousmane Dembele scheduled talks with Barcelona to discuss his future, according to Football London.
Unai Emery has admitted he’s on the look out for one more major signing after already bringing in goalkeeper Bernd Leno, right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, centre-back Sokratis and midfield duo Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi so far this summer.
A new wide-man is reportedly on the agenda as Arsenal have lacked any genuine width since Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott left in January and Emery is ready to sell the likes of Joel Campbell, Chuba Akpom and maybe even Lucas Perez to help fund his transfer plans.
Dembele has emerged as a target as he’s been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months amid speculation he could be on the move just 12 months after joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund.
TeamTalk carried quotes from journalist Charlie Watts that suggested Sven Mislintat sees Dembele as Arsenal’s ‘dream’ signing and our head of recruitment knows the attacker well from their time together in Germany.
However, Watts warned that a permanent deal is highly unlikely so Arsenal’s only hope is to try and convince Barca to let the 21-year-old leave on loan this summer.
The journalist is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“Dembele on his own would cost far more than whatever money comes in from those potential sales. Mislintat would love Dembele, that would be his dream signing and he would slot in perfectly as well. But unless Barca decide to send him out on loan, it’s not going to happen.”
Football London claims Mislintat has a close relationship with Dembele having been the man to take him to Dortmund in 2016 and our talent spotter has been in constant contact with the player in recent months.
It looks like Arsenal have been given fresh hope that a deal could be done as Football Londoncite Sport as saying that Dembele’s agent has now scheduled talks with Barcelona to discuss his future amid concerns over his place in the squad.
The French international was hampered by a serious hamstring last season but struggled to force his way back in to Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven when he returned to full fitness and made just 6 La Liga starts last campaign.
The youngster has been knocked further down the pecking order following the arrival of Malcom from Bordeaux so Dembele may feel he needs to leave to secure regular first team football and Arsenal are ready to pounce.
The Frenchman enjoyed an excellent understanding with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Dortmund so it would be hugely exciting if we could reunite the attacking duo at the Emirates this summer.
