Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has passed a message onto Antonio Valencia over a recent Instagram post on the part of the Ecuadorian, with the former Chelsea boss’ questionable words having been garnering plenty of attention online in the hours since.
Manchester United vs Bournemouth
The Red Devils are set to welcome Eddie Howe’s high-flying Bournemouth to Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon, with the Cherries’ superb start to the season seeing them sitting just 2 points off a top-4 spot at present, and 3 points clear of United in the Premier League table.
All told, Bournemouth have won 5 of their last 6 fixtures across all competitions.
Hosts United, meanwhile, will be hoping to build on their 2-1 victory over Everton last time out, having fallen to a deserved 1-0 loss at home to Juventus last week.
‘Work alone’
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash, Jose Mourinho was asked for fitness updates on a number of the club’s sidelined stars:
‘Fellaini and Dalot [are out]. Jesse and Alexis are in a much better position because last week was an effort for them to be available for the team. But now is a different story and Alexis and Lingard, after one good week, they are ready to play.’
However, it was the Portuguese tactician’s comments regarding Antonio Valencia which have since been turning heads online.
South American full-back Valencia took to Instagram yesterday to showcase his work towards making a return to the pitch:
And Mourinho, who has had to deal with tension between he and Valencia of late (see below), made sure to use the opportunity to poke some fun at the former Wigan man, albeit in a rather bizarre manner:
It’s safe to say that Mourinho’s comments didn’t go down too well with some sections of Manchester United fans:
Others, though, saw the funny side:
Valencia and Mourinho’s fallout
For context, Valencia was recently forced to issue a public apology, after liking an Instagram post which suggested that Jose Mourinho should be sacked:
