What’s the rumour?
Real Madrid have been linked with Eden Hazard for a long time now and the player himself has flirted with the Galacticos on numerous occasions. And now, according to Spanish daily AS, Real Madrid have a plan to sign Hazard.
In case you didn’t know…
Hazard’s deal with Chelsea runs until 2020, which means that he will have just a year left in his contract in the summer of 2019. Last month, Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur claimed that the player has rejected two extension offers from the Blues.
"Hazard has rejected two offers to renew (with Chelsea) until now and says he does not want to sign anything right now. He is waiting for something, and that something only means one thing: Real Madrid," he said.
The heart of the matter
And now, AS claim that the plan of action from Real Madrid for Hazard is the same one they used with Thibaut Courtois. The Galacticos waited until Courtois had just a year left in his contract and then struck a deal with Chelsea for a bargain price.
This is the exact same thing they intend to do in the summer with Hazard, who is valued at £80 million.
Rumour rating: 6/10
While the rumour itself might be very true, it is something that most of us have known all along as it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what the Galacticos plan to do here.
What’s next?
Chelsea have been hit with a transfer ban for the next two windows, meaning that it would be interesting to see how this saga pans out. However, the ball is not in their court as the former Lille star just has a year left in his deal.
