GRACIEDION AN EMERGING AFRICAN FEMALE COMPOSER
GRACE BERNARD A.K.A GRACIEDION African female composer makes Africa proud on the 6th of June, 2018. AN HISTORIC EVENT FOR ALL LOVERS OF BASSOON, CLASSIC AND AFRICAN MUSIC. Amidst few African female composers she strives to bring the names of Nigeria on a leading map by composing two new beautiful Bassoon solo Nkowa and Chegharia for world premieres at the Civic Fellowship Independent Project of Teaching artist and bassoonist of Trade wind ensemble an ensemble that works closely with children from central and East Africa, Midori Samson. She describes that her performance and project strived at encouraging others to examine the problematic and patronizing ways the Africans are talked about.
The project was funded by the Neguanee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (C.S.O), Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Leslie fund inc,e.t.c
Other notable composers whose works were commissioned that date were Peter Nyabuto (Kenya), Mohammed Dainkeh(Sierra Leone), Job Ivan Tezigwatwa(Uganda), Godwin Sadoh(Nigeria), Njabulo Phungula (South Africa), Grace Bernard (Graciedion), Johnny Balongi (D.R Congo) leaving Graciedion the only female composer.
Female composers in the world are encouraged to compose new melodies as compositions are open to all individuals. Amongst other African female composers who have been encouraging young African composers to keep writing include Dr. Eoriwoh Edewede who has many of her works premiered all over the world.
We encourage Graciedion for this bold step and achievement and look forward to more glorious and gracious compositions from her.
