Bayern Munich make £35m transfer bid for Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi as January window chase heats up

Bayern Munich have upped their offer for Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi, bidding £35m for the winger in a move that reaches the Blues' original asking price. 

The German champions are locked in on the 18-year-old winger, believing him to be one of the most talented young players in Europe and a key part of their impending rebuild. 

Chelsea have kept a new contract proposal on the table for Hudson-Odoi and still hope he will sign it, as reiterated by a number of people around the club in public over the last week including Gianfranco Zola and Maurizio Sarri, but if he doesn't then the teen would become a free agent in the summer of 2020 and able to negotiate a Bosman move to Munich a year from now. 

Hudson-Odoi has found himself in the first-team picture recently as the Blues look to convince him that Stamford Bridge would be the best place for his development, and he started in the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, setting up two goals.

But Bayern's insistence and the terms on offer in Germany have convinced enough people around Hudson-Odoi that a new start might be the right way forward. 

The Munich side are planning a big rebuild for the coming off-season, having postponed it last summer and found their ageing squad no match for a dominant Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the season. 

Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Jerome Boateng and Rafinha are among the veterans who are likely to be replaced in some capacity this summer and Bayern have already signed Canadian teenager Alphonso Davies while they are pursuing World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard and Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey on free transfers.
